Financial Reporting is a course in level 2 of the ICAG professional qualification syllabus. It aims to provide candidates with the skills to prepare and evaluate financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It also covers the international regulatory, legal and ethical frameworks, the IASB Conceptual Framework for Financial Reporting, and the accounting for business combinations and consolidated financial statements. It builds on the knowledge acquired at level 1 Financial Accounting and prepares candidates for level 3 Corporate Reporting.

The course outline covers the following topics:

  • The regulatory and conceptual framework of financial reporting
  • The presentation of financial statements
  • The recognition and measurement of assets, liabilities, income and expenses
  • The accounting for leases, employee benefits, income taxes, provisions and contingencies
  • The accounting for financial instruments
  • The accounting for foreign currency transactions and translation of foreign operations
  • The accounting for group structures, including subsidiaries, associates and joint arrangements
  • The preparation of consolidated financial statements, including goodwill, non-controlling interests, intra-group transactions and changes in group composition
  • The analysis and interpretation of financial statements using ratios and other techniques

The course requires candidates to apply their knowledge and skills to various scenarios and cases, using appropriate judgement and technical competence. The course also requires candidates to be familiar with the current developments and issues in financial reporting.
